In this guide we will try to cover the Latin Dance scene. Working with others to find sites and interests all around the world we hope this will expand to give you all the information to get into the Latin Dance scene.
Latin Dance is defined as dances originating in Latin America. Typically these would be Cha cha cha, Rumba, Samba, Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Bolero. Some dance instructors also include Tango and Argentine Tango in their list of Latin Dance. While these differ from the rest in their style their origins are from the Latin scene.
In Argentina Tango is not considered folk dance as is the case with dances like Chacarera, Gato, Escondido and Zamba. Bolivian folk dances are Morenada, Kullawada, Llamerada, Caporales and a recent new style called Tinku.
Some styles have the same name and are quite different in neighboring Latin nations. Colombia has their own folk dance called the Cumbia, not to be mistaken with Argentine's Cumbia, a popular music genre influenced by Caribbean reggae and ska.
